I was born with an incredible desire for love and a passionate need to give it (Audrey Hepburn) (32 photos)

Audrey Hepburn—there's so much in that name. She was not only a great actress and the epitome of beauty in her era. She was also a wonderful person and a loving mother. Above all else, Audrey devoted much of her time and energy to helping others, especially children—she was a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, helping children in poor countries around the world. Audrey Hepburn always knew how to love, because for her, giving love was far more important than receiving it.

Old age doesn't bother me, I'm afraid of loneliness.

People, far more than things, need to be picked up, mended, given a place, and forgiven; never throw anyone away.

For confidence, walk with the knowledge that you are not alone.

My whole life, my mother instilled in me the idea that a person should be useful. She believed that giving love is much more important than receiving it.

Living is like running through a museum. And only then do you begin to truly comprehend what you've seen, think about it, consult books, and remember, because you can't take it all in at once.

I never wanted a divorce. I hate that word. I cringe when it's said about me. My ideal was to marry once and for all.

Marriage is a lifelong contract. Until a person understands their deepest desires, they cannot take such a step. I'm still learning about myself.

I adore people who make me laugh. I truly think laughter is what I love most. It cures many ailments. Perhaps it is the most important thing in a person.

I was born with an incredible desire for love and a passionate need to give it.

A woman's beauty increases with her years.

Success is like reaching a milestone and finding yourself unchanged. Success imposes a responsibility on me to live in a way that is worthy of that success. And if I'm lucky, to even experience it.

To give is to live. If you stop giving, there will be nothing to live for.

If you ever need a helping hand, know this: you have one—your own. When you get older, you'll realize you have two hands: one for helping yourself, and one for helping others.

My only Christmas wish is peace.

There's a lot I don't know yet, but I'm sure I will find out. That's why I don't want to be tied to anything or even anyone.

People associate me with a time when movies were enjoyable, when women in films wore beautiful dresses and beautiful music played.

I'm proud to have done something that brings pleasure, creates beauty, awakens conscience, evokes compassion, and—perhaps most importantly—gives millions a break from our cruel world.
