A Mexican miner survived spending 14 days in a flooded cave
Francisco Zapata Nájera was trapped approximately 300 meters underground after a dam at the site burst on March 25, rapidly flooding the tunnels.
According to military divers, the miner was found by the weak light of a flashlight, which he turned on and off in the complete darkness, trying to signal.
"I haven't lost faith," Zapata told rescuers after being discovered.
The man couldn't be immediately evacuated because the tunnels were completely flooded. Rescuers gave him water, canned food, and energy bars, then continued pumping out the water. It took another 20 hours to make the passage safe.
Ultimately, the miner was brought to the surface and then airlifted to the hospital. Doctors reported him to be very weak but in stable condition.
