Yulia Buruleva was traveling in India when she came up with an unusual photo shoot: she painted a 65-year-old elephant pink. The photos quickly went viral online, and she received a ton of hate. She was accused of animal cruelty and warned never to approach elephants again.
No matter how hard Yulia tried to justify the photoshoot—claiming the dye was organic and that it was only applied for 10 minutes—it was all to no avail. In February, the elephant died of natural causes, sparking a second wave of outrage.
