American tuners crossed a Mercedes-Benz 600 and a fresh S63 (10 photos)
Restorers saved a rotted "600," but not everyone was pleased with the result. 
The majestic 1960s Mercedes-Benz 600 limousine, a W100 model, is one of the German brand's icons, traditionally treated with the utmost care and tact. However, Californian tuners have their own take on the Stuttgart classic.
The S-Klub workshop, led by Ed Sarkisian, transformed the body of a 1971 600, a model year 600 found in a Texas barn, in extremely poor condition. They generously used the interior from a hybrid S 63 E Performance—not a wreck, but one purchased from a dealership for $200,000.
The choice of the donor was determined by the matching wheelbases of the W100 and V223, which allowed for a complete "marriage" with the vintage body installed on a new chassis with adaptive suspension and a powertrain consisting of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and a hybrid unit with a combined output of over 800 hp.
Along with the mechanical equipment, the W100 also inherited all its electronics – a suite of signature driver assistance systems and the MBUX multimedia system with a hyperscreen, as well as a significant portion of the comfort options, including massage seats.
The wider track of the new AMG forced the tuners to significantly rework the classic appearance of the "six hundred." The car received flared fenders front and rear, and the new front bumper, for example, was assembled from elements of the original V223 part. The studio's craftsmen didn't stop there: the W100 headlight housings were 3D scanned, digitized, and redesigned to accommodate the S63 LED units. The car is painted a rich green and complemented by carbon fiber trim on the roof, mirrors, and body kit elements.
Reviews of the reborn W100, dubbed the Final Boss and first shown to the public at SEMA, range from rapture to outright disapproval. Critics were particularly outraged by the massive rear wing and the clearly unnecessary Mercedes emblem in the center of the grille. What do you think of this car?
