A "Monsters, Inc." fan rebuilt her house and changed her last name (8 photos)
Since the first Monsters, Inc. film was released in 2001, Laura Sullivan has been collecting memorabilia. And this hobby has gradually evolved into a true passion. Today, the home of the 36-year-old pharmacist from Tucson, USA, is decorated in the franchise's style—from the furniture to the flowers and decor. The only exception is the master bedroom, which remains the only room free of monsters.
Laura officially became Sullivan. She chose this surname in honor of Sulley, the main character of the animated film. The character's full name is James P. Sullivan. For the American, this isn't just a milestone. It's a tangible manifestation of how deeply the franchise has ingrained her life. She can't say exactly how much she's spent over the years, but she estimates it's tens of thousands of dollars.
The largest purchases immediately catch the eye. Life-size models of Mike and Sulley stand out. Each one costs $7,500. They come with a green sofa, themed bedding, painted doors, and shelves filled with memorabilia. Laura admits, "I've been in love with Monsters, Inc. since the movie came out. I love the characters, the story, and the bright colors. I love everything."
Laura's collection began in childhood. Her mother worked at the Disney store and often brought children's merchandise. When the Monsters, Inc. collection came out, plush characters and themed souvenirs began to appear in the house. Lara recalls, "When my brother grew up, I took all his toys and haven't stopped collecting them since."
"I also have ADHD [attention deficit hyperactivity disorder], so it probably all started with hyperfixation," she said.
After her divorce, three years later, she decided to devote herself entirely to her passion. Now, the living room, dining room, kitchen, guest room, guest bathroom, hallway, and office are decorated in Monsters, Inc. style.
The woman shared: "Before the divorce, I dreamed of a house where everything would be cartoon-themed. I planned to decorate the dishes, walls, and furniture in bright shades of blue, green, and purple. And I made that idea a reality."
After separating from her husband, Laura changed her last name to Sullivan.
Despite the money she's spent, Laura has no intention of stopping.
"I really try to save, but I've been spending money since 2001, so over 24 years, that's tens of thousands of dollars," she says.
"I'll never stop adding to my collection." It's become part of my identity."
Laura hopes that one day her collection will be included in the Guinness Book of World Records. One can only wonder why that hasn't happened yet. ![]()
