Luoxiagou: An Incredibly Vibrant Chinese Palette That's Hard to Believe Exists (30 photos + 1 video)
In Yunnan Province, in southern China, lies the village of Luoxiagou. Its terraced fields, grown in fertile red soil, are a veritable living canvas, the reality of which seems impossible.
After the first photos appeared, the online community debated for a long time whether such a place actually existed. The appearance of these colorful farmland made skeptics doubt: was it Photoshop? But no. Luoxiagou ("Sunset Ray Gorge") in the Dongchuan Red Land region is truly breathtakingly colorful, yet completely realistic.
The area received its name "Red Land" for its striking hues. The primary color of the soil in Luoxiagou is determined by oxidized iron. Irrigated iron gives the soil a rich, reddish-brown hue. But the soil is only the beginning of this fantastic landscape.
At an altitude of about 2,600 meters above sea level, a sea of fields stretches, where grass sways and white flowers bloom among patches of red earth. Due to the lack of large-scale infrastructure and centralized planning, these lands are cultivated primarily by independent farmers.
Everyone plants their own crops on the terraced slopes. This disunity, while hindering the area's development, also creates that stunning contrast of color and texture in the smoothly flowing fields, turning Luoxiagou into a stunning natural scene.
