Mercedes-Benz Shows Off the Interior of the New GLB (11 photos)

Mercedes-Benz has begun unveiling the new-generation GLB crossover, and the first bit of information focuses on its interior comfort. The SUV will be available in both 5- and 7-seat configurations and will borrow the overall interior architecture of the CLA, though the interior is promised to be enhanced with unique features. Mercedes-Benz also revealed the car's ability to withstand temperatures ranging from minus 40 to plus 60 degrees Celsius. The premiere is scheduled for December 8.





Like the CLA, the crossover will receive a giant Superscreen, consisting of a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and two 14-inch displays, but the company already emphasizes that the Superscreen will not be included in the base trim. The CLA will also share the center console and steering wheel.

The GLB is promised to be more spacious due to increased headroom in the first two rows and increased legroom in the second row. The range of seat adjustments will also be expanded, including for the two rear-facing seats.

A panoramic roof with a 200-nanometer-thick infrared-reflective coating will be standard. Higher-end models will feature adjustable transparency and ambient lighting that simulates a sky with the signature Mercedes-Benz starburst.

The new GLB is currently undergoing the final stage of testing in the company's climate chambers. These chambers can not only vary the ambient temperature but also simulate real-world driving conditions, such as driving through snow with winds of up to 200 km/h or driving on a sun-heated highway with road temperatures reaching 70 degrees Celsius. The new model is reported to defrost an icy windshield in just 15 minutes at temperatures of -15 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the GLB warms up the interior twice as fast as its predecessor. Official photos show the crossover's exterior during testing, but its body is covered in artificial snow, making it impossible to draw any conclusions about the GLB's exterior design.

The specific powertrains that will power the SUV have not been specified. It is only known that the GLB will have a fully electric version. It is highly likely that the engine lineup will be identical to the CLA, which is already sold with electric and hybrid powertrains.
