A direct route to the mall: a female driver in Paraguay drove onto an escalator
The phrase "drive into a shopping mall" has taken on new meaning: a woman drove straight onto the Fuente de San Lorenzo escalator. A great way to save time—but not your nerves!
According to local media, the driver panicked and pressed the wrong pedal—the gas pedal instead of the brake—and crashed into the mall. Shoppers barely managed to jump out of the way before the car stopped halfway up the escalator. Fortunately, the woman was uninjured, as were bystanders. However, the car appears to have been forced to "make some unplanned purchases"—repairs will clearly be costly.
Witnesses report that after the collision, the driver appeared shocked and was unable to leave for a long time. Mall staff and rescuers helped safely remove the car and check the escalator.
