An American spent decades acquiring car after car, eventually amassing a diverse collection of approximately 1,300 (43 photos)
Having inherited and developed his father's cardboard packaging business in the 1990s, Greg Rusk quietly developed a taste for car collecting. While his peers were obsessed with muscle cars, Greg was accustomed to the executive sedans that were popular in his family. So, the collection began with Cadillacs of various generations, of which he eventually accumulated 105.
The businessman then expanded his collection to include other domestic brands: Lincolns (48 units), Buicks (35 units), Chevrolets (259 units), Fords (109 units), Pontiacs (96 units), Chryslers (55 units), and so on. Along the way, his garage was replenished with European and Japanese cars he liked. Each new car was acquired spontaneously, but almost weekly. The collector enjoyed driving a new car for a weekend, and then it would be put in the garage, never to be driven again.
Perhaps the most interesting part of Greg Rusk's story is how he collected cars. Knowing his passion, employees of his company, Rusken Packaging, and local residents who were experiencing financial difficulties or urgently needed money for medical treatment or their children's education would approach him. Instead of haggling, Greg did just the opposite. He would ask the person how much money they wanted, and that was the price he would pay for the car.
Over the course of more than a quarter century, the American accumulated approximately 1,300 cars from various eras, which now sit idle on his sprawling Alabama estate, in several hangars and open-air meadows. A treasure trove for any Detroit automotive enthusiast!
Having fully satisfied his passion for cars, Rusk decided to sell off his garage—not the whole thing at once, of course, but piecemeal at Hagerty Auctions. There's a car to suit every taste and budget—with no minimum price, offering the chance for a very profitable deal.
