Zuckerberg vs. Zuckerberg: when a name becomes a curse (2 photos + 1 video)

Mark Zuckerberg sued Mark Zuckerberg. Not the billionaire owner of a huge social network, but a humble bankruptcy lawyer from Indiana. This guy, they say, is tired of his social network page being constantly blocked, where he is mistaken for his famous namesake. It's funny to us, but not so much to the lawyer, because the business is suffering.

In short, on September 2, lawyer Mark Steven Zuckerberg filed a lawsuit in Marion County Court against Meta and its CEO Mark Elliott Zuckerberg. Over the course of eight years, his account was blocked five times, with accusations that he was pretending to be the founder of the platform. They say that the moderation system sees him as an impostor, although he began practicing law when the future billionaire was only three years old. The thing is that algorithms do not understand such subtle nuances, and here is the result.

Unlucky lawyer

After each blocking, the lawyer proved his identity by showing documents, credit cards, and even photos. But it was of little use, because cars are stubborn. He spent eleven thousand dollars on online advertising to attract clients, but the blocking was still broken. They say it's like buying a place for a billboard on the highway, and then covering it with a blanket.

To prove his identity, the lawyer also created a website, iammarkzuckerberg.com, where he chronicles his mix-ups, from prank calls to awkward encounters at events. While the pseudonym sometimes works in his favor (for example, it helps him get a better table at a restaurant), he says the mix-up has caused more problems than it's worth.

This is how a famous name interferes with the life of an ordinary person. The last blocking happened in May, but after another lawsuit, the account was restored. The company apologized and promised to prevent this in the future, saying it was a mistake.

In a world where algorithms rule, an ordinary person with an unfortunate name has to sue giants. Like a comedy, only without a happy ending for the wallet.
