A study by Advanced Dermatology found that one in four Americans regrets at least one of their tattoos.

In Japan, in the 17th century, prisoners were given tattoos called "irezumi kei" as a form of punishment. Over time, the practice died out, partly because freed prisoners camouflaged their marks with decorative designs.
