Man saved chimpanzee from death: warm meeting years later
Cameroonian biologist and monkey keeper Fiston approached the island of Pongo, where there is a large colony of chimpanzees, to give the animals bananas. One of the inhabitants of this piece of land is Citron, who has a special story with the biologist.
Zoologists from the Cameroonian organization write that Mr. Fiston looked after, nursed and fed the abandoned chimpanzee, who was on the verge of life and death. When the animal's health improved, biologists released Citron into the natural environment, where years later a new meeting took place.
"In his arms are all the memories, trust and emotions that come alive again. It is impossible to remain indifferent to such a scene!" - says the note from Papaye International.
They add that they continue to care for chimpanzees, who "are still being exploited." Zoologists say that chimpanzees are not intended for "circuses, laboratories and entertainment", because they should live in their own environment.
"We work every day to give them a dignified, free and respectful future. A future where chimpanzee babies will no longer be deprived of their childhood. A future in which we will never forget that recognizing the humanity of others is also the beginning of our own humanity," the Cameroonian biologists conclude.
