Ferrari unveiled a new front-engine grand tourer Amalfi (12 photos)

Ferrari has a new grand tourer: it is called Amalfi in honor of one of the areas of the Italian coast and the city of the same name located there. Amalfi will take the place in the brand's lineup previously occupied by the discontinued Roma coupe, compared to which the new model is significantly improved. It is expected that the assembly of Amalfi will begin at the end of this year, prices have not yet been announced.





The company calls the power unit the main change in Amalfi compared to Roma. The engine still has a volume of 3.9 liters and, as before, is located behind the front axle. However, for the Amalfi engine, they developed improved turbochargers with a rotation speed of 171,000 rpm, installed a new control unit, improved cylinder block processing, lightened camshafts and filled with low-viscosity oil - for the first time for engines of civilian Ferraris. In addition, the coupe acquired a different exhaust system with a control valve and a ceramic catalyst with a coating of rhodium, platinum and palladium. An eight-speed "robot" from the SF90 Stradale is attached to the V8 with a control software modified for more comfortable driving.

Despite the volume of modifications, the engine output increased by only 20 hp, and the traction performance has not changed compared to the Roma. The V8 generates 640 horsepower and 760 Nm and can accelerate the 1,470-kilogram Amalfi to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds — 0.1 seconds faster than the Roma. The new model will reach 200 km/h in 9 seconds, and its maximum speed is 320 km/h. The latter figure remains the same.

Ferrari does not directly report changes in the grand tourer platform, however, given the similarity of the silhouettes of the Amalfi and Roma and the same wheelbase of 2,670 millimeters, most likely, the "trolley" has not changed. At the same time, the appearance of the coupe is seriously adapted to the current design style of the brand due to the redesigned front end with new lighting equipment and a different bumper without a pronounced radiator grille.

The aerodynamics of the coupe have been improved due to a different configuration of the bottom, a larger diffuser and an active spoiler, which in the maximum extended position adds up to 110 kilograms to the downforce.

The interior has retained the visual division into driver and passenger areas. At the same time, Ferrari designers decided to abandon the massive central tunnel between the seats in favor of a more minimalistic solution. The vertical display has been replaced by a horizontal 10.25-inch diagonal. The instrument panel has a size of 15.6 inches, the passenger screen is 8.8 inches. A new steering wheel with physical buttons instead of touch buttons has been installed.

Among the chassis improvements, Ferrari mentions a brake control system "by wire" and a recalibrated steering mechanism. Available options include a system for lifting the body above the front axle to pass obstacles, comfortable seats with 10-point massage and 14 Burmester speakers, as well as an expanded set of driver assistants. In addition to the basic adaptive cruise control and emergency braking system, it will be possible to add, for example, a warning about moving vehicles behind and a 360-degree view function.
