"The Squid Game" is based on real events that took place in South Korea in the 80s. The creators were inspired by the history of the "Brother's House" center in Busan. Then, before the 1988 Olympics, the authorities decided to "cleanse" the streets of the homeless and disabled, taking them to a special center with hellish conditions.
There, people in blue suits were forced to work, abused and killed. They could take anyone without documents or even a child. Over 500 people died there over 12 years. The survivors still cannot recover from that horror.
