Kovozoo - an amazing metal zoo (50 photos)

Hundreds of scrap metal animals and a collection of other oddities "inhabit" the Stare Mesto in the Czech Republic.





Do you have a scrap metal collection, but you don't believe that with some hands and soul you can give it a second life? In the south-eastern Czech Republic, a group of enthusiasts have solved this problem radically - they created a real zoo, where all the inhabitants are made of rusty bolts, old barrels and other junk.

Metal kingdom of animals



The name "Kovozoo" is a play on words: kov means "metal" in Czech, and indeed, there is not a single living creature here, only sculptures made from waste.





The quality of the animals varies: some look abstract or even comical, while others are realistic, detailed giants created by local blacksmiths, whose craftsmanship has been famous in the Czech Republic for centuries. The real stars of the park are the rhinoceros Norbert, weighing 5 tons, and the five-meter giraffes. In total, the zoo has about 300 metal animals, and the collection is replenished every year.

Ecology + art = Kovozoo



The project was originally conceived as an ecological recycling center where people could hand in their unwanted junk. But the creators' imagination turned it into something more — an art space where trash gets a second life in the form of fantastic creatures.



In addition to animals, there is an L-610 airplane here — the first prototype, ordered by the USSR in 1988. He was saved from being thrown away and now “lives” in the zoo. There are comfortable chairs made from garbage containers, a fascinating tunnel of living trees, in the creation of which nature and metal united in a single purpose and harmony, an observation deck on an industrial roof and even a maze of tires for the most active visitors.
