A German resident tracked down his previously stolen BMW and got it back, for which, according to the newspaper Mannheimer Morgen, he was arrested last Thursday. The police do not yet know whether to consider the theft committed by the car owner a crime.
A 27-year-old resident of Mannheim drove his BMW to visit relatives in Romania at the end of April. His car was stolen, and the owner contacted the police and the insurance company. Later, during the investigation, the police found out that the BMW was sold to a 38-year-old resident of Dortmund.
The previous owner tracked the geolocation of the stolen car via GPS, went to Dortmund, opened it with his key and, as if nothing had happened, drove home. This turn of events did not please the new owner. He, in turn, also filed a report of theft. The police had no trouble finding the BMW and detaining its original owner for theft at the exit of the restaurant. He quickly presented the documents for the car.
At the moment, the 2017 car, worth 12 thousand euros, has been confiscated. The police will have to figure out who it belongs to, whether its original owner committed an offense, and also find the Romanian criminals.
