The aroma of actinidin is similar to nepetalactone, which is found in catnip, another plant that is equally attractive to cats.



But if nepetalactone calms and relaxes cats to the point of drooling, then actinidin causes overexcitation of the nervous system, sometimes with attacks of aggression, hallucinations and extremely inadequate behavior.



Therefore, actinidia should be protected from cats, and cats from actinidia. It does not directly harm the physical health of cats, but a raging cat can be dangerous to itself and others.
