Princess or Monster? What happened to the face of a Bulgarian aristocrat? (16 photos)
The main character has royal blood, a rich pedigree, a real title. But her face... is such that social networks explode every time her photo appears online.
Before us is Kalina Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, a Bulgarian princess whose appearance changed so quickly and strangely that now in the comments she is called either a ghoul or the Hulk. Some laugh, some sympathize, and some simply cannot understand: how did a woman with an aristocratic appearance turn into this?
She used to be a real beauty.
Kalina in her youth.
In old photos, Kalina is a very pretty girl. Aristocratic features, a neat nose, soft lips. Her photos before 2000 are like from a fairy tale. Looking at them, it is hard to believe that this is the same woman who is now causing shock on social networks.
When she met her future husband Kitin, everything was fine with her appearance. Even at their wedding in 2002, Kalina looked quite normal, although some people already noticed: something was wrong with her nose.

It changed — it became different in shape. The lips too — it seemed to be a little crooked. But the real changes began later, especially after the birth of her son in 2007.
What happened to her face?
Since then, her appearance began to rapidly deteriorate. Her nose literally “melted”, her face became crooked, and her gaze — painful. Internet users wondered: plastic surgery? disease? What is this anyway?
There is an official version, and it was voiced by Kalina's husband. Allegedly, her front teeth were knocked out as a child. Then, a London dentist tried to put crowns on her, but drilled too deep and got an infection. This infection worsened again and again, especially in difficult conditions - for example, on the open sea, when there were no doctors nearby.
There were complications, there was an infection, Kalina allegedly almost lost an eye. And yes - according to her husband, her face was deformed as a result of this chain nightmare.
But many people find this story strange, to put it mildly. It sounds like a fabrication to hide something bigger.
Or maybe it was different?
There are other versions, more realistic:
1. Too many plastic surgeries. She started with one, then another, and another, and at some point it didn’t go according to plan. Her face “floated,” and it was too late to fix it.
2. Drug abuse. Some are sure that Kalina had problems with cocaine. This drug corrodes the mucous membrane and can literally destroy the nose. Such cases are known.
Which of these are true, we don’t know. But the fact remains: the princess’s appearance has changed beyond recognition. And this caused a flurry of discussions on the Internet.
A muscle princess?
But the story doesn't end there. Instead of hiding, Kalina went all in.
She started working out actively. And not just to stay in shape, as most do - she built up such muscle mass that she now looks like a professional bodybuilder.
In the last photo, her arms look like she's bending rails. Abs, shoulders, everything is pumped up. Some people don't even immediately realize that there's a woman in front of them. And this, of course, caused a new wave of shock: "What happened to her?!"
There was even a version that she deliberately built up her muscles to distract attention from her face. Like - let them talk about muscles rather than nose. And what's surprising is that this plan worked.
Who is her husband?
Kalina's husband is Antonio Jose Kitin Munoz, a Spaniard of Moroccan origin. In the Western press, he is simply called "an adventurer." He was a military man, became a traveler, a navigator, and a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
Little is known about his family - most likely, they were simple. But he married a real princess. Their son, Simeon-Hassan, was named after his grandfather (the Tsar of Bulgaria) and the Moroccan king. The family includes Catholics, Orthodox Christians, and Arabic names. A kind of aristocratic international.
The family now lives mostly in Morocco, hence Kalina's unusual outfits: turbans, oriental patterns, bright fabrics.
Who is her father?
Kalina's father is Simeon II, the last Tsar of Bulgaria. In 1943, at the age of 6, he became Tsar, and already in 1946 he was exiled along with his family.
But he came back. And not just as a tourist — in 2001 he became the Prime Minister of Bulgaria. This is a unique case in the history of Europe.
The entire family of Simeon II, including the children's wives and husbands and their children.
Simeon II is married to a Spanish countess. They have 5 children, and all have names starting with the letter "K": Kardam, Kirill, Kubrat, Konstantin and Kalina.
Each of the brothers has his own story. One died in an accident, another became a financier, the third — a surgeon. All are married to Spanish noblewomen. Everything according to aristocratic protocol.
To put it mildly, Kalina looks unusual now. Her face scares many. Her body is puzzling. But all this does not prevent her from being a real princess, mother, wife, heiress of an ancient dynasty.
She may have long since come to terms with her reflection in the mirror. And we are just watching, discussing, guessing. But one thing is obvious: this woman knows exactly how to attract attention.
