A parrot saw its owner for the first time after surgery after 10 years of blindness: a touching reaction (2 photos + 1 video)
After 10 years of blindness, a 40-year-old cockatoo named Boo has seen his former owner for the first time thanks to a successful operation. The heartwarming reunion has left social media users in stitches.
Boo has had a difficult past. He was abused at a young age, lost a toe, and was only saved by a police raid nearly 25 years ago. Over the years, his health has deteriorated again, and he has gone completely blind, making him even more vulnerable.
Nevertheless, a woman named Nedra adopted Boo, giving him care and love. However, the proximity to another bird caused stress for the cockatoo, and eventually he was given to the caring hands of his current owner, Amy Hurst.
When Boo came to Hurst, he was in serious condition: weakened muscles did not allow him to fly or even sit confidently on a perch. Regular hand feeding and care helped the bird get stronger. And in March of this year, Boo underwent cataract surgery at the veterinary hospital of North Carolina State University, which helped restore his vision.
Soon after the surgery, Amy invited Nedra to visit an old friend. In a touching video, Boo is seen recognizing his former owner. He jumps up and down with joy, spreads his feathers, and even starts dancing on his perch, seeing for the first time in years the woman who once gave him a second chance.
"He's not just a bird who got his sight back. He's a true symbol of resilience," says Hurst.
