A unique American supercar was put up for auction (10 photos)
The Worldwide Auctioneers platform has put up for sale a 2008 ASVE AREX roadster. This is a one-of-a-kind supercar designed by American David Stollery, a former Disney actor who later became an automotive engineer. Bidding for the unique car will take place next Friday, April 25.
David Stollery was active in films and performed on Broadway in the fifties. He then worked for General Motors for seven years, after which he joined the Californian design studio of Toyota, with which he also collaborated for seven years. In parallel, he received an education as an automobile designer and, among other things, designed, for example, the second-generation Toyota Celica. Stollery later worked for Harley-Davidson.
Stallery's own firm, Industrial Design Research, spent nearly two decades developing the ASVE AREX as a "technology showcase." The one-off supercar with butterfly doors featured a tubular steel chassis, double wishbone suspension, disc brakes all around, a Corvette LT1 engine with a Magnuson supercharger mounted inside the wheelbase, and a five-speed ZF transmission.
According to the developers, the roadster can accelerate to 60 mph in 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 mph.
In 2019, David Stollery donated the car to a museum in Southern California. Now the organization is closing, and the exhibit is up for sale.
