Flathead Lake is a remnant of the ancient glacial lake Missoula, which existed at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation and was formed by the melting of a glacier. The lake is located at an altitude of 882 meters above sea level. Its length is about 43.9 km, and its width is about 24.9 km.
