The village of Čičmany is a unique place not only in Slovakia, but also in the world, which is often called one of the most beautiful villages in the country and even in all of Europe.





Located at the foot of the Stražovské Vrchy mountain range, it attracts tourists with its originality, traditional architecture and rich cultural heritage.

Among the highlights that make the village unique are the following:

Traditional Wooden Houses. The main feature of the village are its houses, resembling fairy-tale gingerbread huts, decorated with carved wooden elements and white patterns on black walls. These patterns resemble lace or ornaments and are applied by hand using lime paint. They are not only decorative, but also have a symbolic meaning: many of them were created to protect against evil spirits or to attract good luck.

History and Revival. The village has existed since the 18th century, but in 1921 it was almost completely destroyed by fire. However, locals rebuilt it, preserving the traditional style. Today, Cicmany is practically a living open-air museum, where you can see what life was like for Slovaks several centuries ago.

Cultural heritage. Cicmany still reverently preserves the traditions of its ancestors, including folk costumes, music and dance. Here you can meet craftsmen who create traditional products such as embroidery, pottery and wooden toys.

Natural surroundings. The village is surrounded by picturesque mountains and forests, making it an ideal place for nature lovers and hikers. Nearby is the Mala Fatra National Park, which is famous for its trails, waterfalls and mountain views.

Winter paradise. Cicmany is especially beautiful in winter. Snow-covered wooden houses with traditional patterns create a truly fairy-tale atmosphere. It is a popular place for photographers and those who want to immerse themselves in the spirit of old Europe.





Cicmany is considered the world's first folklore reserve. In 1977, UNESCO recognized the village as part of the world's cultural heritage for its unique architecture and traditions.
