The mayor hasn't disappeared, the previous one just lost his nerve and left his post two years ago, and his deputy's term ended, and he didn't want to run for re-election. And in general, no one from the locals wanted to, so they had to find an unconventional way out of the situation.

There is a German island in the North Sea called Wangerooge, with an area of 7.94 km2 and a population of 1,217 people. The island is also located near the coast of the Netherlands and Denmark. There is no industry on it, the population lives off tourists, so there are a lot of spa centers, hotels and holiday camps for children and adults on the island. As for historical sites and other attractions, the island has one functioning lighthouse, one old lighthouse, and the West Tower. And it is also forbidden to drive cars there.

That is where the crisis occurred due to the lack of personnel. Finding new employees with the qualifications of specialists in the field of management seems almost impossible for the island, if it cannot be done even on the mainland.

So they had to place ads in the newspapers. The future mayor is required to live on the island, as well as have a higher education and relevant work experience. You can put forward your candidacy until mid-June, and elections will be held in August. Their winner will hold his position for eight years. The future mayor is lured by the sun, the beach, the sea and a salary of 7,000 euros.

Searching for a mayor through an ad in a newspaper will soon become a tradition. In 2018, an ad was also placed in the newspaper to find a new mayor after the unexpected death of the current mayor. Marcel Fangor, the former mayor, was found through that ad. But in 2023, Marcel managed to quarrel with the municipal council and leave the island.

So the position has remained vacant ever since, with resort director and mayoral general representative Rick Beaven serving as the temporary mayor. But now it's time to find a new mayor, so the tried and true ad-based recruitment scheme has been put into effect.
