Police exposed hundreds of illegal cannabis farms thanks to suspicious “electricians” (3 photos + 1 video)
A random video of "electricians" at work helped British cops uncover a large-scale criminal group that was growing cannabis worth millions of pounds. Now all members of the group have received their prison terms.
British police were able to uncover an illegal cannabis grow in the northwest of the country, when unknown electricians tried to "repair" one of the lines, but gave themselves away by their actions. Thanks to the "work" of these workers, cops were able to uncover a huge network, which involves representatives of the Albanian mafia.
Law enforcement officers have established that representatives of an Albanian criminal group decided to grow cannabis without legal status and came up with a cunning cover-up plan. With the help of intermediaries, they created two companies that were supposed to provide electricity supplies to a number of British cities, and a group of eight local criminals arrived at the site under the guise of "electricians" and carried out "repair work" there.
However, it later turned out that the men were redirecting electricity from the network to nearby disguised farms where they were growing cannabis. During one of these jobs, the so-called "electricians" made a mistake in installing cables, which led to a fire.
The police launched an operation codenamed "Spark", during which the cops quickly got on the trail of the criminals, and at the same time exposed dozens of farms across England, which this criminal group was connecting.
The Crown Prosecution Service reported that all eight of the arrested were British, some of whom had previous problems with the law, in particular regarding the illegal sale and distribution of narcotics and medical drugs. The police have now uncovered almost 100 cannabis growing points, and the total income was estimated at 21 million pounds.
The court sentenced all members of the group to various prison terms - from three to eight years respectively. The prosecutor's office adds that law enforcement officers are currently continuing to search for representatives of the Albanian criminal group that facilitated the illegal cultivation of cannabis as part of Operation Iskra.
