A Brazilian resident fell from a height of 200 meters when his hang glider folded in half (5 photos + 1 video)
Hang glider Ricardo Stecanella jumped from a peak in the municipality of Timbe do Sul, southwest of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Shortly after takeoff, the wings of the structure folded, and the man fell 200 meters.
In the published video, the Brazilian glides through the air over picturesque mountain scenery, about half a minute later, his glider folds in half and he begins to fall rapidly.
A woman off-camera screams: "Oh my God!"
On Sunday, at around 1:40 p.m. local time, rescuers received a call about the incident. They found the body of 52-year-old Stecanella with multiple injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man died instantly after falling from a great height.
Local media reported that the body was lifted onto a helicopter using cables.
Stecanella worked as a truck driver for the municipal water and sanitation department and was on vacation at the time.
He was a member of the hang gliding club in Timba do Sul, whose spokesman sadly noted: “Words are hard to find to describe our feelings at this sad and sorrowful moment. Our condolences go out to Ricardo’s family and friends. May each of us find solace in the legacy he left behind, in the hugs and words that help us move on. Ricardo, fly free into eternity.”
Adriana Cavalheiro's widow wrote: "Even in heaven, you are still my pilot."
Police found part of the flight equipment in the forest, which will be examined as part of the investigation.
The man was buried on Monday in Timba do Sul.
