About Two Thousand Dolphins Spotted Off the Coast of California

Several large groups of dolphins have gathered off the coast of California to form a "superpod."

The group of mammals was spotted off Monterey Bay, south of San Francisco. The "superpod" includes northern smooth dolphins, Pacific white-sided individuals, and light gray calves.

Mammals usually group together to protect themselves from predators and to search for food together. However, dolphins, as some of the smartest animals on Earth, have found other interesting activities in the "superpod" - they play, look after their young together, and warn each other of danger.
