In Bogota, Colombia, 70-year-old Cecilio Lagares Lopez died while trying to escape a swarm of African bees, known as "killer bees." The man was attacked by the insects while walking down the street. In an attempt to escape, he jumped into a river, but was unable to get out and drowned. 
Witnesses to the incident immediately called rescuers. The search operation lasted less than a day - Lopez's body was found south of the place where he entered the water.
The tragedy has drawn attention to the problem of aggressive African bees, which have repeatedly caused accidents in the region.
Lopez was not the only victim. Several Bogotá residents were also stung by bees that day and taken to hospital. Most of them escaped with minor injuries, but the incident highlights the danger of such attacks and the need for a quick response in emergency situations.
