An Italian woman, Rosa Vespa, and her husband, Aqua Moses, stole a newborn girl from a maternity hospital. The girl pretended to be pregnant for nine months, and by the end of her “term,” she wrote on social media that she had given birth and named the child Ansel. No one had seen the baby. The girl explained this by saying that the newborn was in the hospital for an examination.





It is unclear how planned the theft was. On the day of the incident, Vespa and Moses entered the Sacro Cuore clinic, put on medical masks, and headed toward the maternity ward. There they looked into the wards of women who had just given birth. Posing as medical workers, the couple asked if the child needed to be washed.

This is how Vespa found the ward in which Valerie, who had just become a mother, and her newborn Sofia were. There were also relatives in the ward. The girl did not lose her head and took the child in her arms under the pretext that the girl needed to be examined by a pediatrician, and took the baby. After some time, Valerie began to worry and ask where her child had gone.

After the fact of the kidnapping was revealed, the police set up roadblocks throughout the city and began an investigation. The officers watched two CCTV recordings: one showed two people leaving the clinic with the child, the other showed the kidnappers getting into an Alfa Romeo 147.
