27-year-old flight attendant Yang Yanxi from China quit her job and returned to her hometown to become a pig farmer. In just two months, she earned 200,000 yuan ($28,000).
Yang was born to a rural family in Heilongjiang Province, in the northeast of the country. After graduating from university, the woman worked as a flight attendant for a Shanghai airline for five years. During tough times for her employer, her monthly salary was only 2,800 yuan ($380), so she often had to ask her parents for help.
Eventually, Yanxi realized that her parents had cut their own expenses and accumulated large debts for her sake. In October 2022, after learning that her mother had secretly undergone multiple lipoma removal surgeries, the flight attendant decided to quit her job and return home.
"My parents always told me only good news and hid the bad news. I didn't want to live so far away from home," the Chinese woman explains her decision.
In April 2023, Yanxi got a job at a relative's pig farm and began raising animals. The woman regularly shares stories from her farming life on social media, where she has collected nearly 1.2 million followers. She wears beautiful dresses and shows how she prepares feed for the pigs and cleans up after them.
Yanxi plans to expand the farm in the future, open a specialty store and a hotel.
