Our Family Member: Man Bought a Pig to Slaughter, But Things Didn't Go According to Plan
Christine Giles told how her father, 61-year-old Michael Hanson, bought a pig to slaughter, but was unable to do so. Now the pet, named Sparkle, has become part of the family, not just a menu item.
"We initially bought the pig to stock up on meat, but she was so loving, with such gentle eyes. No one could lay a hand on her. So she became a member of our family. Personally, I thought it was funny because I knew my dad would get attached to the pig and keep it for himself," says Giles, who lives in Maine (USA).
Now the 18-month-old pig lives with three chickens in her own barn, which Hanson built for her using lumber.
"Sparkle loves us all. She is very affectionate. She follows us around and loves when we pet her, scratch her and cuddle her," Giles told Newsweek.
