The Kilbrittain whale – a gloomy but touching symbol of the village (10 photos + 1 video)
The skeleton of a whale that died on the shore in this Irish village is now part of a park complex. 
On January 15, 2009, a whale was stranded on the coast of Burren. The giant was most likely misled by unusual tides. Having discovered the sea giant, locals rushed to save it, trying to return it to its native element with the help of a lifeboat.

But the attempts, alas, were fruitless. The whale, unfortunately, died on the shore. A specialist arrived from the States who examined the carcass, and while the whale was lying there, a necropsy was performed. There was only one problem left - what to do with the remains of such a giant.

After the necropsy, a group of local volunteers worked diligently for several hours, timing their work between tides, to extract the animal's subcutaneous fat. The group was assisted by many members of the community, including workers from a local meat processing plant, who provided equipment and transport to assist the volunteers.
After the skeleton was dismantled and cleaned, the people collected the bones and put them on display in the enclosure, where they remain to this day. 
The skeleton of the unfortunate whale has become a symbol of sorts, and now a public park and playground have been built around it. Which, in general, is not such a bad fate for the entangled whale, which continues to live in the memory of the townspeople, albeit in this form.
