Domestic dog accidentally mistaken for coyote and shot (3 photos + 1 video)
Northbridge, Massachusetts, police received a report of a coyote on the loose in the city.
An animal control officer went to the location and indeed saw an animal that resembled a coyote. The "predator" assumed a pose that the officer considered threatening, so he shot the animal. Only when examining the body did the officer notice a flea collar on the animal and realized it was a domestic dog. The pet, named Odin, belonged to a local resident, Kirk Rumford. However, the police said that the authorities have nothing to blame themselves for. It was a tragic misunderstanding that would not have happened if the owner had kept an eye on the pet and not let it out of the yard.
However, Kirk is furious. He describes the deceased pet as a "kind klutz" who, in his entire short life (less than a year), never once assumed a threatening pose. And Odin did not look like a coyote at all, since he was much larger. He could also be mistaken for a wolf, but wolves are not found in this area.
