Explosions thundered in the Murmansk region of Russia in the area where the base of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation is located. This was reported by Censor.NET.
Residents of Murmansk and Severomorsk, located 12 km from it, wrote on social media on Wednesday evening about two powerful explosions, the waves from which people felt at a distance of several dozen kilometers. One of the explosions was captured on video.
Judging by the footage, the explosion could have occurred at one of the facilities of the main naval base of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation.
The Norwegian publication The Barents Observer notes that 13 km from the shooting location is the military airfield "Severomorsk-1", where fighters, bombers and squadrons of Ka-27 helicopters are based. At a distance of 11 km there is an open weapons depot, and to the northwest of "Severomorsk-1" there are several installations with mobile anti-aircraft missiles and antennas for electronic warfare. In addition, between Severomorsk and Murmansk there is a closed military airfield "Severomorsk-2", which began to be restored in early 2024.
