Britain's Transport Minister lost her job because of a little trick with a phone (3 photos)
The incident happened back in 2013, but only now has it become a big scandal.
British Transport Secretary Louise Hague resigned last Thursday after it emerged that she had fraudulently obtained a brand new phone model that was being actively used by her colleagues at the time.
In short, Louise filed a police report in 2013 that she had been “attacked while on a night out” in London. She gave the police a list of her things that she believed had been stolen, including her work phone. Well, they stole it, so what's the point of whining? The bosses decided and gave the woman a new model.
Only after some time the lady found the missing phone at home, and she didn't tell the police about it. It slipped her mind, it happens to everyone. Only those who were supposed to know about the accidentally found phone found it and kept it a secret for a long time and faithfully, until the right time. Until they remembered it at the right moment. Oh, how awkward it was. And now Madam Hague has pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation while standing for Parliament in 2014.
She became the first minister to resign from the new Labour government of Keir Starmer (who replaced the big-eared Indian, who in turn undermined Liz Truss, known for her salad competition). But let's not get distracted from the scandal.
Keir Starmer
In short, it turned out that this same Starmer appointed her to his shadow cabinet in 2020 after she revealed to him the fact of the crime with the phone. Moreover, he promoted her three times. But the press secretary repeatedly told reporters at a briefing on Friday that Ms Hague's resignation was due to new information, without going into detail about what that information was or whether Starmer knew about it.
We don't give a damn about all this fuss, it's just funny how one wrong move more than 10 years ago has ruined a very successful career.
