A school in New Jersey, USA, celebrated the birthday of its beloved employee, a deaf dog named Cole. He has been working there as a therapy dog for seven years now, and every year, the students throw huge parties in honor of the birthday boy to show how much they appreciate him.
This year, Cole rode around the school in a special carriage in a festive outfit. The students delivered the dog to the cafeteria, where the party began.
First, Cole was given a Happy Birthday song in sign language — the students had been rehearsing the performance for weeks. Luckily, the animal really enjoyed it, says Cole's owner and music teacher Chris Hannah.
"He was so naughty all day, very playful, even a little silly, which certainly had to do with the fact that he knew it was his birthday. He's usually very quiet during the work day, but who doesn't love silly things? He was looking around to see the kids singing for him," she added.
After the celebratory song, the even better part began: Cole was given his favorite cheeseburger. The dog enjoyed it in front of the delighted students.
Hannah adopted Cole seven years ago and got him a job at her school. According to the woman, the dog, although he “doesn’t hear with his ears,” “hears with his heart.” Hannah communicates with her pet using sign language and notes that the dog not only calms the children, but also teaches them to accept those who are different.
