Bugatti has announced a new world record for the fastest production open-top car. At the Papenburg circuit in Germany, the Mistral roadster with a 1,600-horsepower engine was accelerated to 453.91 km/h. The previous record had stood for seven years.
In essence, Bugatti has regained the title of the fastest roadster manufacturer in the world. Back in 2013, the same pilot Andy Wallace managed to reach 408.8 km/h at the wheel of the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse at this circuit. However, four years later, in the US, this achievement was surpassed by the tuners from Hennessey: their Venom GT spider broke the 427 km/h mark.
Bugatti, as a rule, does not disclose the price of customer cars. However, in this case, an exception was made: the black and orange Mistral with an abundance of carbon in the trim cost its owner, a collector from India, 14 million euros. The owner of the record-breaking car was present at the race and, according to Bugatti, even took part in the event.
After the official recording of the record, Andy Wallace drove around the track again, this time with the owner of the Mistral in the passenger seat. It is claimed that the hypercar was accelerated to almost the same speed the second time, and this attempt can be unofficially considered the fastest ride in the world in an open-top car with a passenger.
The Bugatti Mistral was unveiled back in 2022 as the final road model on the Chiron platform with the famous 8-liter W16 with 1,600 horsepower. The hypercar differs from the donor not only in the body type, but also in multiple changes in the design and chassis settings. In total, the company will assemble only 99 copies of this hypercar, after which it will begin production of a new product - the Tourbillon coupe on a fresh platform with a hybrid V16. Four engines of the newest Bugatti provide 1,800 hp. It is not yet specified whether an attempt will be made to set a new record, this time for cars with a hard roof.
