A missing cat walked almost 500 kilometers in a couple of weeks (2 photos)

Scottish couple Cara and Colin McBurney lost their pet late last month and were "shocked" to find it 300 miles away in Coventry.





A white cat with orange spots, named Bins, left their home in Cumbernauld, UK, and disappeared without a trace. The owners searched the area but found no trace of their pet, leaving them fearing the worst-case scenario.

Kara said Beans had been out on the streets alone that day, as usual, but he always came home to eat.

"We looked everywhere for him. I thought something must have happened to him. I had given up hope of ever seeing him again, but I joined a lot of Facebook pages where people post missing pets," said Ms McBurney, 40.

A few weeks later, the charity Cats Protection called to say Beans had been found thanks to his microchip. He was safe in Coventry, hundreds of miles away.



The pet, who was hanging around the mailbox, was noticed by local resident Kelly Ryan.

"I didn't feed him right away because I thought he must have belonged to someone, and then one night I saw him sleeping in the litter box. He was there all the time and sometimes he would visit the neighbors," she says.

Ryan posted a message about the missing cat online. She was soon contacted by the organization "Protection of Cats." The next day, Beans was reunited with his owners.

Kara still can't understand how the cat managed to cover such a distance.

"I'm shocked that Binns is still alive. How did he travel over 300 miles? I'm so glad he was microchipped," she adds.
