The profession of barge haulers existed in many countries of the world and completely disappeared only in the middle of the 20th century.
In Germany, for example, you can find monuments dedicated to this hard work.

The Winkelried Memorial was erected in memory of Arnold von Winkelried, who sacrificed his life in the Battle of Sempach on July 9, 1386.

The famous diamond-shaped fruit stickers appeared in Sicily. In order to distinguish genuine Sicilian lemons from all sorts of North African fakes. These stickers, not surprisingly, were produced in factories under the control of the mafia and their "sale" at slightly inflated prices served as a good aid in money laundering.
Venice Ball 1951.
On September 5, 1951, one of the most famous costume balls of the 20th century took place in the Palazzo Labia in Venice. It was the first grand party after the end of World War II.

Ikarus is a Hungarian bus manufacturer founded in the late 19th century. In the 1980s, it was one of the largest bus manufacturers in Europe. In 2003, the company went bankrupt.

Whether the authorities made concessions to the farmers is unknown. A similar incident occurred in 2014, when farmers demanded that the authorities step up the fight against wolves.

The Landes region in southwestern France was poor for much of its history, with few roads and vast stretches of marshy, dangerous terrain. To navigate the soft, unstable wastelands, shepherds developed a unique adaptation: they traveled on stilts.
If you look closely, the grandfather who got the mail also has stilts. They are leaning against the wall.

At Christmas, wreaths are woven from this plant and hung over the door, and many different customs are associated with mistletoe in Europe.
