Do you think that only our officials are terribly fond of keeping money in their homes in piles? No, it turns out that this is a fetish for all thieving officials around the world.

The chief inspector of the National Police Department for Combating Economic Crimes and Money Laundering, Oscar Sanchez Gil, and his wife, an agent of the Alcalá de Henares judicial police, are suspected of close cooperation with local drug dealers.

They are charged with drug trafficking, bribery, money laundering, creating a criminal organization, and failure to prosecute crimes.

The guy took bribes without hesitation, and strictly in cash, so that God forbid suspicious money would not appear in his accounts. He saved up a decent amount, but this genius never figured out how to launder his criminal earnings.

He just bought expensive cars.

Around 20 million euros in cash were found in the searches carried out at Sanchez Gil's home and office, as well as several luxury cars, including a Lamborghini Huracán Spyder worth almost 300,000 euros.

In addition to the Lamborghini, several BMWs were found that could be linked to a criminal organization.

In total, 15 people close to Sanchez were detained.

This is what the 13 tons of cocaine confiscated during the latest raid in Algeciras look like. It was after this raid that the arrests began. Police officers searched five homes and offices in Madrid and Alicante.

The arrests came as a profound shock to the national police, as Sanchez was respected by his superiors and officers. "It is true that he was a reserved man who said little, but no one could have imagined anything like this," local media reported.

Commenting on the arrest of a senior officer in Spain this week, leading Dutch prosecutor Janneke de Smet-Dirk said: "Incidents like these not only put pressure on the integrity of individuals, but also on trust in international cooperation in the fight against financial crime."
