Perceives people as "sparring partners": authorities closed the city due to the threat of a wild kangaroo (3 photos)
A wild animal escaped from its enclosure and its owner did not report it in a timely manner. Meanwhile, the kangaroo ran around the city outskirts and scared tourists.
Authorities in one of the cities in the state of Florida decided to temporarily close it after news in October that a potentially dangerous animal, a wild kangaroo, escaped from its enclosure after an encounter with a bear.
Last week, the "boxer" was finally caught by the animal's owner, who lives in Volusia County. According to him, the kangaroo returned home on its own.
Despite this, the owner of the animal was still charged with improper maintenance, an expired license, and failing to report the escape within 12 hours.
While the kangaroo was away from home, it ran around the Florida countryside, scaring locals and tourists. Notably, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, the kangaroo may perceive a person as a "sparring partner" and cause damage.
"The kangaroo will attack the person as if they were another kangaroo. It may push or grab with its front paws, or lean back and kick with its back paws. The injuries sustained can be serious," the report said.
