A design studio in Stockholm has unveiled an office roller coaster. The 60-meter track runs through the company's workspace.
The guys from Stockholm have built a "dream office" with a real roller coaster. The 60-meter track runs through the entire office space, including the kitchen, recreation area, and workspaces. The design and construction of the coaster took more than a year.
The idea to install it belongs to the director of the local design studio The Great Exhibition. According to him, he has been dreaming about this for at least 15 years and has finally been able to implement his idea.
"It's an unattainable dream, because such an attraction inside the office is impractical, dangerous and very expensive. But the more I understood how impractical it is, the more I wanted it," admits the founder of the studio, Petter Kukačka.
The attraction has only one tangible advantage: it's a lot of fun to ride, which is what the company's employees do.
The attraction has another unexpected meaning: the employees consider it a symbol of resistance to artificial intelligence. Designers are concerned about the rapid progress of AI in routine tasks, and in this unusual way they remind us that there is a pinch of the irrational in any creativity that a computer will never be capable of.
“The attraction inside the office is so important precisely because it is nonsense: it is not a familiar or expected solution. A computer would never come up with such a thing because it is impractical,” explains Petter, who is confident that the ability of every human being to make mistakes and do stupid things will soon be valued more than ever before.
At least, few people approach the implementation of their stupidities into life so thoughtfully: the company tried more than 200 drawings before settling on a design that would work like a real attraction, but at the same time would not interfere with other employees moving around the office, working, using the kitchen and going to the toilet.
To ensure that everything works safely, the company abandoned ceiling lights and came up with a special sound signal that sounds every time someone decides to ride. Only one person can ride at a time. The entire structure and its installation cost the company 150 thousand dollars.
However, Petter has no doubt that the price and effort have already justified themselves: he is happy, the employees like it, and the studio's office is being talked about all over the world.
