An old Danish legend says that the Devil's claw marks will forever remain on this rock.

The legendary rock known as the Devil's Fingers in Roskilde is marked by deep, naturally formed furrows from the Ice Age. It measures quite impressive - 1 x 0.8 x 1 meter. This reddish, uneven gneiss with numerous cavities was discovered in the early 1900s during the widening of a local road.

There are two legends associated with this rock. According to one version of the story, the devil himself visited Roskilde during a Christian holiday of prayer and reflection. The timing was very unfortunate, and the incessant ringing of church bells forced him to flee. In his haste, he fell and grabbed a large rock to steady himself, leaving claw marks on it.

In another legend, the devil was arguing with his grandmother about how to rule hell. During their argument, the elderly relative spoke to him in an inappropriate tone. The devil lost his temper and threw the grandmother with such force that she flew to Earth. And she would have flown endlessly, but she managed to grab a large stone in Roskilde. Her claws left deep marks on the surface of the stone before she remembered that it was not the neck of her adored grandson and regained her composure.
