A 1986 Mercedes-Benz W123 with record mileage is in operation in Spain. The car has already covered 7 million kilometers. Focus writes about.
This Mercedes 240D W123 in the extended (6.1 m) seven-seater Lang version works for one of the taxi services of the island of Gran Canaria. Its owner, Domingo, bought the car used in 1988.
Since the Canary Islands are a tourist region, Domingo has enough customers. On average, he covers 700 km per day.
In this mode, the oil in the Mercedes 240D is changed 52 times a year, that is, once a week (every 5000 km). Domingo takes care of his car and regularly maintains it, although the 2.4-liter 72-horsepower diesel engine had to be replaced once.
Domingo and his Mercedes W123 have already become a local legend - the Spaniard even managed to create his own taxi service. In 35 years, they covered a distance equivalent to 175 round-the-world trips.
In 2008, Domingo set out to restore the Mercedes 240D and hand over the business to his son. At that time, the mileage of the car was 3.8 million kilometers. During the restoration, parts from the newer Mercedes W124 were used. In addition, the body was strengthened and the interior was modernized.
By the way, the Volvo P1800 with a mileage of 5.15 million km is currently entered in the Guinness Book of Records. However, it is worth noting that this car is completely original and without spare parts from other models.
