A rare $3 million Ferrari sports car burned down in the US (5 photos)
In the USA, a 1971 Ferrari 512M burned down on a race track. The collectible sports car was seriously damaged. Focus writes about it. 
The incident happened at the Watkins Glen racetrack in New York state at the end of July. The owner of the Ferrari 512M decided to test the car on the race track, and went to the track already in the evening, when the security service and firefighters went home. 
A Ferrari sports car caught fire at the autodrome - flames erupted from the engine compartment. The driver was able to stop the car and quickly get out of it, but the fire was not extinguished immediately. 
The photo shows that the rear of the Ferrari 512M is seriously damaged. Repairing a sports car will not be cheap. According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire was a damaged fuel hose: gasoline leaked out and caught fire from contact with a hot engine. 
The 1971 Ferrari 512M is a very rare sports model. A total of only 15 such cars were produced. 5.0-liter V12 with 610 hp. accelerates an aluminum sports car weighing 815 kg to 310 km/h. The price of the Ferrari 512M is now over $3 million.
In particular, the American driver Sam Posey performed on this Ferrari 512M. In 1971, he finished third in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
