The athlete, who was hospitalized with burns to 80% of her body, died in hospital on September 5.
Dickson Ndiema, 32, who doused his girlfriend, 33-year-old Ugandan runner Rebecca Cheptegei, with gasoline and set her on fire, died in a Kenyan hospital from burns sustained in the attack.
Doctors said Ndiema had developed respiratory failure due to severe burns to his airways. He was taken to the intensive care unit with burns covering 30-40% of his body. Doctors had previously said that his condition was "improving and stabilizing."
The attack on Rebecca Cheptegei occurred on September 1. A man broke into the girl's house in Kenya with a canister of gasoline, poured flammable liquid on her and set her on fire. The athlete received burns to 80% of her body and was taken to hospital in critical condition, as a result of which her organs failed.
According to media reports, the conflict was caused by disagreements over the land on which the house was built. The athlete had previously moved to Kenya to live near training centers.
