Two tourists spent 10 minutes in the vacuum of space.
Two members of the Crew Dragon crew, consisting of non-professional astronauts, have gone into outer space for the first time in history. It is reported that the Polaris Dawn expedition was organized by billionaire Jared Isaacman. He became the first person to go into outer space as part of a commercial mission. Following the expedition commander, the head of the SpaceX astronaut training program, Sarah Gillas, followed into the vacuum of space.
Also present on the ship were former military pilot Scott Poteet and former NASA biomedical flight director and chief engineer for space operations Anna Menon. However, they remained on the ship.
It is reported that for this mission, SpaceX specialists installed many handrails and a ladder called Skywalker inside the Crew Dragon cabin. The space tourists stood on it, leaning out of the cabin into open space.
The first to leave the ship
Jared Isaacman spent more than 10 minutes in open space, after which he gave way to Gillas, who spent about the same amount of time in the vacuum of space. At that moment, the ship was at an altitude of 730 km above Earth, which is almost twice the altitude of the International Space Station.
The launch of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle with the Crew Dragon spacecraft with four non-professional astronauts took place on September 10. The mission is expected to last 5 days. The financial costs of the flight have not yet been disclosed. But it is known that Jared Isaacman, whose fortune is about $ 1.9 billion, signed a contract with Elon Musk's company for three flights back in 2021.
