When a man from Viana, Brazil, was taken to intensive care, his dog Caramelo followed him and waited outside the hospital for nine days. Unfortunately, the man was transferred to another hospital, where he died, and the loyal pet never saw his owner again.

Currently, Caramelo is in a shelter, and will soon be able to go to a new family.

"Caramelo's devotion is a powerful reminder of the deep bond between humans and pets. We are committed to finding him a loving, safe home," said Valkyrie Vieira, manager of Bem-Estar, an animal welfare NGO.

Caramelo's owner was hospitalized on August 1. While the dog was sitting outside the hospital, medical workers took care of him.

"Our organization took Caramelo. He was immediately taken to a veterinary clinic, where he received the necessary medical care. They took his blood for analysis, microchipped him. It turned out that the dog has anemia and a tick-borne disease. He is currently undergoing treatment. He is exhausted, so he was prescribed a balanced diet and supplements. Additional tests will be carried out. After castration, vaccination, antiparasitic treatment and completion of treatment, the animal will be ready for life in a new family."

There are many people who want to adopt a pet, but Bem-Estar takes their choice of family seriously.

"An interested person must fill out a special form and then be interviewed by the team. The team's goal is to find out a little more about the future owner, check if he has other animals and how he takes care of them, and whether there is enough space in the house."

Valkyrie noted that the selection criteria for owners for Caramelo are exactly the same as for all other animals rescued by the organization.

"We care about the future of our wards and are looking for people who are ready to take responsibility and provide them with the care they need. We want the animals to have a place where they can play and behave naturally."

When asked how long Caramelo will be under veterinary observation, Vieira replied: "He is still being examined. He will be ready to go to his new family as soon as he is fully recovered!"
