The crash occurred during an air show.
A Fouga Magister crashed into the sea during an air show in the commune of Le Lavandou in southern France. The two-seat jet trainer reportedly belonged to an air club and had no connection with the French Aerospace Forces. However, the aircraft was taking part in an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the start of the Southern French Operation (the liberation of the south of the country from the Nazis).
The air show was held on Friday evening. Fouga Magister crashed at about 17:00 (18:00 Moscow time) — almost immediately after the performance of Patrouille de France
It is noted that the plane crash occurred almost immediately after the Patrouille de France aerobatic team held its part of the air show. The crashed plane was second in the parade. After the crash of Fouga Magister, the air show was canceled.
The Fouga Magister training aircraft, developed in France, does not provide for pilot ejection. The pilot died. His body was removed from the plane during a search and rescue operation. The local prosecutor's office is already investigating the cause of the crash.

We should add that this is the second air crash with pilot deaths that has occurred in France in two days. On Thursday, August 15, two Rafale fighters collided during a training flight in eastern France. Both pilots died. Local media emphasize that the fighters were part of the Aquitaine squadron, and both pilots were French citizens.
