The robbers spent almost a year to practically get into the bank building in the San Isidro area, they were just five meters short of the "robbery of the century". 
The thieves decided to take their time and dug beautifully, just for themselves. They installed lighting, covered the walls and ceiling with wooden panels so that it was dry and did not fall down the collar, made a complex ventilation system. They dug themselves a de facto headquarters under the bank building with a corridor 200 meters long. Mattresses, personal belongings, barrels of fuel, tools and a very detailed robbery plan were also stored there.
Everything was thought out to the smallest detail, absolutely perfect! But fortune was not on their side. The thing is, there was a lone construction rod sticking out of the ground next to the bank. It scratched the delivery driver's van, which he reported to the bank's security guards.
Then the police were informed, who discovered that the rod was part of a carefully constructed tunnel that ran from an empty warehouse to the bank building.
No one in the area reported any noise from the tunnel builders, since the solid structure was more than three meters underground.
The thieves themselves were not caught; they managed to escape as soon as they realized that uninvited guests were breaking in. Now the police are looking for the diggers offline to charge them with unauthorized excavations and preparing a robbery.
Investigators said the construction took six to nine months, and called the tunnel an engineering feat "more advanced than the one El Chapo Guzman used to escape from a Mexican prison in 2015."
"We've never seen a tunnel like this before. It's a real work of engineering, where everything is perfectly calculated."
By the way, this city was robbed in 2006 and quite successfully. Then the criminals managed to steal almost 19 million dollars, threatening the cashier with a toy gun. After themselves, the criminals left a note that said: "In the rich people's area there are no weapons, no offense, only money."
Eventually, the gang was caught, but most of the money was never returned.
