Fashion parade at the Olympics: the brightest and most controversial outfits teams in Paris (33 photos)
The Olympic Games are not only a demonstration of athletic skill, but also a bright spectacle during which national delegations present their culture and traditions. The opening ceremony of the Olympics always attracts the attention of the public with its spectacular costumes and outfits.
Among the most memorable images at the 2024 Games in Paris, one can single out the Mongolian team, whose traditional attire amazed the audience with its originality and color. No less interesting was the appearance of the Canadian team, dressed in casual but stylish clothes from the famous brand Lululemon. At the same time, some national delegations may not have fully coped with the task of creating bright, memorable images. Well, here are the uniforms of 27 countries at the opening ceremony.
1. Mongolia
The bright and distinctive costumes of the Mongolian team from the brand Michel&Amazonka (Ulaanbaatar) became one of the most memorable moments of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris.
The outfits presented at the 2024 Games reflect the rich cultural heritage of Mongolia. They depict national and Olympic symbols: nine white flags (a symbol of respect for the state), the Olympic torch, the emblem of the Paris Olympics, as well as the sun, moon and mythical gua-maral deer, skillfully embroidered with gold thread.
The sun and moon, enclosed in soyombo (the first symbol of the Mongolian script), symbolize the Universe and, according to the Mongolians, are the mother and father of their nation. Each outfit took an average of 20 hours of painstaking work to create.
2. Kenya
Team Kenya's outfit for the opening ceremony was designed by Kenyan brand Kovu Couture. "It reflects our deep belief in culture, unity and traditions that carry our dreams and inspiration," the brand's designers explained. "Celebrating the vibrant colours and stories that make our country unique. Embodying our rich heritage and being proud to be made in Kenya."
3. South Sudan
The South Sudan team's uniform was designed by Rwandan fashion house Moshions. At the opening ceremony, the South Sudan basketball team wore a custom uniform from the brand. NBA star and US men's basketball team LeBron James liked it so much that he praised it on social media.
4. Haiti
Third on Forbes' list of the most notable Olympic uniforms, Team Haiti wowed with their uniforms, designed in collaboration with Italian-Haitian fashion designer Stella Jean and Haitian graphic artist Philippe Dodard.
The outfits weren't just clothes, they were walking works of art, visual narratives of the country's rich and complex history. The women's skirts unfurled like canvases, adorned with Dodard's arresting paintings. The shirts were made from Haitian “blue cotton,” a traditional fabric known as indigo cotton that is an important part of the Caribbean island’s cultural and economic history. The fabric is often hand-dyed using natural indigo plants, giving it a distinctive deep blue color. The men wore striped shirts and printed scarves, and the entire outfit was meant to convey the spirit of the Haitian people — proud, vibrant, and indomitable.
5. Australia
Australia’s uniform included a blazer with a lining bearing the names of all 301 Australians who have won gold at the Summer Olympics. The blazer, made by Sportscraft, features the Australian Olympic Pledge on the inside pocket.
Indigenous artwork was also a key element of the uniform, including Ngalmun Danalaig (Our Way of Life) by Torres Strait Islander artist David Bosun and Walking Together by Olympic boxer Paul Fleming. The pieces were reportedly used on scarves, pocket squares and the team pledge.
Along with the blazer, female athletes could choose a track top or tee, and either cropped chinos or a pleated skirt. Male athletes could choose a track top and cropped chinos.

The Taiwan team uniform was designed by Justin Chou. The blue suits feature works by famous Taiwanese artists. The text was designed by Lin Kuo-ching, who made the English word "Taipei" look like the Chinese characters "加油" (jiayou, a ubiquitous expression of encouragement) upside down.
According to Chow, the uniforms were designed with sustainability, fashion, crafts and art in mind, and were made from fabric produced using carbon capture technology. The woven flowers decorating the lapels of the jackets are plum blossoms, Taiwan's national flower, and nanohana flowers, which symbolize support, Chow said.
9. Japan
At the opening ceremony, Team Japan wore white jackets paired with polo shirts and dark trousers from Japanese brand Asics. “The main color of the uniform is ‘Sunrise Red’, the gradient design of which expresses the strength and warmth of the red sky with the morning glow, inspired by the image of the ‘Paris sunrise’,” the brand’s designers explained.

Resilient like the sun, Filipinos rise and shine despite life’s challenges.”

14. Bermuda
The Bermuda team's outfits were designed in a cheerful pink and blue palette by Courtney Clay, Channing Dill, and Alana Wade. The designs included abstract elements such as white lines and triangles, which represent elements of Bermuda.

The female athletes wore a white dress designed by Dill, paired with a custom scarf created by Clay. All athletes and officials also wore Gombe-style pins made by Wade.
Wade, the maker of the Bermuda Gombey regalia, said: "The peacock feather symbolises royalty, pride and strength, is adorned with a mirror that can ward off evil spirits and bring good luck, and is complemented by a traditional wool tassel that symbolises the connection to our enslaved ancestors.
